I was fortunate enough to go see Teacher Tom this weekend ( 14-15/7/17) in Canberra. He's always been someone I professionally admire.
It's not easy to admit you aren't always doing the best you can when doing any job and I look upon attending workshops as an opportunity to reflect on what is working well and what isn't.
I was sitting in the workshop yesterday listening to Tom Hobson (Teacher Tom) talk about how we use directive statements. "Pick up this" or "Come here"
Noone likes being TOLD what to do. I'm very much guilty of this myself. Alternates such as "The bears need to be on the table" or "We need to get ready to go outside/where ever" seem to engage us more. We are not being commanded and we are more like to participate. So this is where I am going to start steering our ship.
As adults we have so much power over children. By sharing the power with the children we become closer and build each other up. We in effect become stronger. Our tribe members become stronger and as a tribe we are stronger.
